Capturing Joy: A Beautifully Unposed Family Photography Session in the Old Piggery, Windout Farm, Devon

As a photographer, I absolutely love capturing the beauty of families in a natural, unposed way. So, when I was planning out this shoot with the help of the very accommodating and beautiful Windout Farm, Dartmoor

The location for this shoot was Windout Farm’s old piggery which has been lovingly (and tastefully) restored. The sunlight was INSANELY bright, which posed some challenges for photography and annoyed me no end after weeks over atmospheric fog and rain, but I was excited to see what I could capture in this beautiful setting.

As the shoot began, I immediately saw that the sunlight was incredibly bright, so my main aim for this session was 1) Using the bright light to enhance the atmosphere through halation (see my blog on this here) 2) ensuring that key parts of the images were shadowed/diffused enough 3) Playing with the light and shadows and being creative. I was able to adjust my camera settings according to the effects needed and use the light to my advantage, creating a hazy, cinematic effect that added to the overall beauty of the shoot.

The parents were dressed in a country, prairie style, which added to the natural beauty of the surroundings, I really wanted an easy-going, calming session- nothing formal, just easy and natural (apart from the red dress, I just wanted to play with a new dress!). They were playful and loving with their children, creating some truly heartwarming moments.
