What Does a Family Photographer carry around with them? Devon & Cornwall | Newborn | Maternity | Family Photography
I am SO not a techy person. If you want one of them, pop along to the NEC's Photography Show and look for a MWC (Man With Camera as they are known throughout the photography world)- typically spotted with the most giant lens known to humankind, about to describe it (and many others) in detail to anyone who will listen, and enjoys discussing the pros and cons of Nikon vs Canon in his spare time.
I'm sorry; that is a huge stereotype. It is a stereotype for a reason, however.
I, on the other hand, know what I know. I know how my cameras and lenses work and how I use them to create my work, and I am far more interested in developing other areas of my art. This is why my camera is updated only as necessary, I gravitate towards the lenses that give me the most atmosphere rather than the sharpest ones, and I add diffusions filters to them to dull that sharpness.
I've had my Canon 5D Miii for many years now, my poor old workhorse, and I use it alongside a Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 lens, a Canon 100mm f/2.8 lens, and a Sigma Art f/1.8 135mm lens. If you've followed me for a while, you'll also know that I love using vintage film cameras during shoots. My main film cameras are a 1970s Olympus OM2, Nikon EM, Nikon, Leica 3g, and a Rolleiflex Automat.
One good camera, lens, and OK spare are all needed. Anything else is just for fun!
The random objects that you may see me with- plastic, dried flowers, a prism, copper pipe… all of these add effects to the images… I’m all about experimenting!
